Follow in the footsteps of great polar explorers and explore the Arctic as they did, with snowshoes and dog sled.
After pick-up in Tromsø city and transfer to our center, we take you out for an evening snowshoe hike into the quiet wilderness around our center. We provide all necessary clothing and equipment, our skilled guide will accompany you and show you the way through terrain.
Back at our center we will warm you up with dinner served around an open fire in our Gamme-Hut. Try Bacalao, a traditional Norwegian fish dish, or go for our vegetarian option (order during booking). Spend the evening in our campsite and dog yard, cuddle our 200 Huskies and listen to the stories of your guide. Our center is furnished with several fireplaces inside and out and our thermal overalls and boots will keep you warm and toasty, in case you want to try your luck and look for the Aurora. The nights are getting brighter in March so best chances to see Aurora is after midnight. Stay awake as long as you like – a good nights rest on reindeer furs awaits when you are tired.
The next morning starts bright and early with home-made breakfast and then it is time to go dog sledding! You can decide if you want to ride the sled as the passenger of one of our experienced guides, or if you want to drive it yourself (book ride or self-drive option accordingly).
Afterwards we will take you on a guided tour of our dog yard where you can learn all about the dog sled races our teams participate in and the Alaskan husky breed. A highlight for big and small is always the visit to the puppy enclosure! For lunch, we will serve you a steaming hot bowl of Bidos, a reindeer stew and staple of the indigenous Sami cuisine, before we say goodbye to the dogs and make our way back to Tromsø city.
* One private accommodation is available upon request, recommended for families with children (sleeps up to 4).
** Please note that the self-drive activity has an age restriction of 16 years and requires good physical condition.
