1 private accommodation available upon request, recommended for family with small children.
Follow in the footsteps of the great polar adventurers and explore the arctic as they did, with snowshoes and dog sled! Together with an overnight stay and northern light watching in our aurora camp, you have all the arctic highlights in one package.
After pick-up in Tromsø city center and transfer to our center, we take you out for an evening snowshoe hike into the quiet wilderness around our center. Far away from civilization and the city lights a dark night sky awaits you – keep your fingers crossed for lady Aurora to make an appearance! Our skilled guide will accompany you and show you the way through terrain that is easy to hike, even in the light of our headlamps. Of course we provide all necessary clothing and equipment.
Back at our center we will warm you up with a hot dinner served in our Gamme-Hut around an open fire. You can try Bacalao, a traditional Norwegian fish dish, or go for our lovely vegetarian option (order during booking). Afterwards you can spend the evening in our campsite and dog yard, cuddling our 300 Huskies, learning about the northern lights phenomenon from your guide and of course keep your eyes on the sky in case the Aurora appears! Our center is furnished with several fireplaces inside and out and our thermal overalls and boots will keep you warm and toasty. Stay awake as long as you like – a good nights rest on reindeer furs awaits when you are tired. Looking for a private accommodation? Inquire with us during booking!
The next morning starts bright and early with a delicious breakfast and then it is time to go dog sledding! During booking, you can choose the Self-Drive option if you want to steer your own sled (age restriction 16 years) or the Ride option if you would prefer to be the passenger of one of our experienced mushers. In both cases you will be sharing the sled with one other guest, switching between riding and driving in the self-drive option.
The last hours will be spent on a guided tour of our dog yard where you will learn about the dog sled races our teams participate in and the Alaskan husky breed. A highlight for big and small is always the visit to the puppy enclosure!
For lunch we will serve you a steaming hot bowl of Bidos, a reindeer stew and staple of the indigenous Sami cuisine, before we say goodbye to the dogs and make our way back to Tromsø city.
