Follow in the footsteps of great polar explorers such as Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen and explore the Arctic as they did, with snowshoes and dog sled.

Together with an overnight stay in our cozy Lavvus, you have all the arctic highlights in one package.

After pick-up in Tromsø city and transfer to our center, we take you out for an evening snowshoe hike into the quiet wilderness around our center. Our skilled guide will accompany you and show you the way through terrain that is easy to hike, even in the light of our headlamps. Of course we provide all necessary clothing and equipment.

While you yourself learn the most necessary skill for all arctic adventurers – snowshoe hiking – your guide will tell you all about the history of polar exploration. The ancient travel and survival techniques of the indigenous tribes in the Arctic, the “Snow-How”, lead to the success of the modern adventurers such as Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen. Their stories are interwoven with the history of Tromsø, so follow your guide on your very own arctic expedition!

Back at our center we will warm you up with dinner served around an open fire in our Gamme-Hut. Try Bacalao, a traditional Norwegian fish dish, or go for our vegetarian option (order during booking). Spend the evening in our campsite and dog yard, cuddle our 300 Huskies and listen to the stories of your guide. Our center is furnished with several fireplaces inside and out and our thermal overalls and boots will keep you warm and toasty, in case you want to try your luck and look for the Aurora (possible to spot until end of March). Stay awake as long as you like – a good nights rest on reindeer furs awaits when you are tired. One private accommodation is available upon request, recommended for families with children (sleeps up to 4).

The next morning starts bright and early with home-made breakfast and then it is time to go dog sledding! During booking, you can choose the Self-Drive option if you want to steer your own sled or the Ride option if you would prefer to be the passenger of an experienced musher. In both cases you will be sharing the sled with one other guest, switching between riding and driving in the self-drive option.

Afterwards we will take you on a guided tour of our dog yard where you can learn all about the dog sled races our teams participate in and the Alaskan husky breed. A highlight for big and small is always the visit to the puppy enclosure!

For lunch, we will serve you a steaming hot bowl of Bidos, a reindeer stew and staple of the indigenous Sami cuisine, before we say goodbye to the dogs and make our way back to Tromsø city.

Please note: Snowshoe hiking requires active participation and good physical condition. This program is therefore not recommended for children under 10 years. Please take contact with us if you are unsure about the required fitness level. The self-drive sledding option requires a minimum age of 16.
